There was a time in the past when Indycar was, to me, just some American cars continually doing circles for heaven knows how long. That was my perception and it was as simple as that. There was no way for me to watch any of the races live, so I only had magazines and the internet to reference from. I was only young but soon enough I worked out that were essentially two types of US open wheel; IRL and ChampCar. Both looked to me like a tacky version of F1, but then I only saw snippets of this world and still had no way of watching, so I just stuck my nose back into F1 and forgot about it. Firstly, I can't start without remembering Allen Simonsen. The tragedy that befell the 95 Aston was unexpected and without warning. It does remind us that racing is dangerous, and nothing can be made completely safe. I have never felt the same reaction in a crowd; the applause he received before the podium ceremony is something I will never forget. I finally got to go to Le Mans after first hooking onto it in 2011. As I may have said before, I have known about it for most of my life, I have just never had access to the coverage of the race. Well, normally I have little to say after a Grand Prix, but there is so much to say I fell the need to vent it somewhere... If there is anyone out there is unconvinced that Fernando Alonso is the best driver on the current Formula 1 grid just needs to watch the last few races...and then the whole season. In a car that looked useless at the beginning of the year, he is within touching distance of Vettel, who has a distinctly better car. In this race, he did supremely well, as ever, to survive the attrition and put some stunning overtaking moves to finish second and never put a foot wrong. I'll have no regret in saying he deserves this seasons
